What is Total Triage?

Using SystmConnect (an online consultation tool) you will submit a request by completing a form online via our website. Our GPs will then review each request to decide which member of our practice team is best placed to help, the most suitable time frame for the appointment and whether this is best suited to be via telephone or in person at the practice.  Where necessary, we might ask you to answer a few additional questions online to help us. As well as offering GP appointments, some patients will be directed to other clinicians in the practice or external healthcare organisations.

We understand the importance of timely appointments for many patients. Total Triage ensures that the practice makes the best use of these with GPs and other clinicians. Often telephone consultations work well for both patients and clinicians, and we have facilities to view photographs sent from your mobile phone which are extremely helpful to support best care. 

How does this benefit you?

We understand that change can sometimes be difficult, but we are confident that Total Triage will bring many benefits to you:

  • Convenience: We recognise that telephone access into the practice is not ideal, with some patients experiencing long wait times.  By adopting Total Triage, patients can contact us without having to call or travel to the practice, enhancing your experience with the practice
  • Embracing Innovation: As healthcare technology advances, Total Triage will enable us to adapt and evolve with the changing healthcare landscape, improving access and managing demand at the practice

What if I have trouble using the new system?

  • We aim to support patients and their families/carers to use this new way of contacting the practice and to become comfortable
  • We will, of course, provide additional support to those patients who are unable to use online resources

What requests can I submit via SystmConnect?

  • New medical conditions
  • Existing medical conditions
  • Fit (sick) notes
  • Doctor support letters
  • Follow up appointments with a GP

Why complete an online request?

  • Research shows that many requests can be dealt with without the need for an appointment
  • You can submit a request via SystmConnect at any time during our opening hours.
  • Completing an online request is useful for patients who are unable to call or come into the practice

What about my data?

  • SystmConnect is approved by the NHS, is fully governance approved and integrates with your NHS healthcare record
  • All information is handled within our clinical system, and no information is held outside of your NHS healthcare record
